J is a Supply Chain Management graduate from the University of Bristol and she secured a graduate Supply Chain Analyst role at Shell.
First, we’d love for you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
“I studied Business Management and then MSc Supply Chain Management. I’m a very organised person, so something about supply chain analytics and optimisation just clicked.
I’m glad I ended up with a role that allows me to utilise those skills.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“My main drive was that I wanted to use my analytics and problem-solving skills to create more optimised supply chains. I was also really driven to have a positive impact on the green transition within the energy industry.”
What’s are you most proud of about your journey?
“I’m most proud of securing a graduate role. Applying for graduate schemes sounds a must-do for every graduate, but no one ever talks about how arduous the journey is to get there."
"It’s almost expected that you’ll get one lined up for as soon as you finish university, but I didn’t secure my role until a year after my postgrad, so I’m proud that I managed to make it to the end of the line.”
What have you learned from going through the process?
“Graduate scheme assessments are hard!
The earlier you apply, the better. A role may close in December, but they’ll be filling up spaces with the people that applied as soon as the application opened.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“Use the website Graduate First! It has hundreds of practice psychometrics tests and a breakdown of application processes and lots of companies, so you know exactly what you’re getting into.
It really helped me improve my skills and actually showed me what I was doing wrong in the first place. It’s hard to be prepared, but being able to practice puts you levels above everyone else.”
Tell us about the future. What’s next?
“Strangely, I’m really looking forward to just living life! I’m very goal-oriented, so since GCSEs I’ve been striving for the best possible grades and the best graduate scheme and career."
"Now that I’ve got that, I can just live life a bit! I want to do my best in my day-to-day job and have enjoyable hobbies in the evenings and weekends."
"There’s no major goal on the horizon, except to just do the best I can each day.”
