The CNN International Visuals team are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic design intern to start a 3-6 month paid internship this autumn.
Our team is made up of visual journalists, data journalists, developers and designers, we combine storytelling, data and design to create compelling interactive features, dataviz, mapping and illustrations for news stories.
We're looking for a design intern who's enthusiastic and proactive. You don't need to know all the programs, but you'd be keen to learn how to visualise the news.
The Daily
- Researching and designing data visualizations for news stories
- Creating wireframes of interactive websites and concepts for new ways of digital visual storytelling
- Visualising those designs as working prototypes
- Gathering and exporting assets
- Illustrating page toppers (the illustrations that represent a news story and sit at the top)
- Creating posts and managing our CNN Creative Instagram account
The Essentials
- A portfolio of digital graphic design work that shows a good demonstration of the basic design principles like alignment, balance and hierarchy
- Designs or concepts for creative interactive websites
- Digital designs that show you can tell a story online, perhaps with different components like dataviz, audio, text, vector illustration or photography.
- Within these projects you'd show us a good understanding of UX
- You'd be familiar with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Figma and a prototyping app eg. Figma
The Nice-to-Haves
- Knowledge of basic code
- Experience creating dataviz
- Experience working with data sets, and using them to tell stories or creating visuals
Although the office is in Old Street, east London the internship can be fully remote, as long as you're UK-based.
Our ideal intern would be proactive and be able to work autonomously. Our internships typically last for 4 months and are geared around the availability of each candidate.
