This Research Assistant position will support a Cancer Research UK project assessing the use of non-cigarette tobacco products (e.g., cigars, cigarillos, shisha, smokeless tobacco).
The post holder will play a key role in conducting a quantitative analysis of trends in youth use of non-cigarette tobacco products over time and in three different countries (England, Canada, and the US). We want to explore what proportion of youth are using non-cigarette tobacco products and whether this has increased over the past 8 years, as well as whether trends differ in England compared to Canada and the US.
This will be a desk-based role, analysing multi-country, multi-wave data that has already been collected as part of the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project (ITC Project). The post holder will be expected to contribute to the write-up of findings as well as research publications and, where required, funder report(s).
You will support the Principal Investigator and the Department of Primary Care and Public Health. You will also collaborate with colleagues at University College London and the University of Waterloo (Canada). You may also collaborate with the funder (Cancer Research UK) and non-academic partners (e.g., Action on Smoking and Health).
About you
We are looking for someone who is ideally educated to degree level or with relevant working experience. You will need to have excellent quantitative data analysis skills and be proficient in the use of statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, or SPSS).
You will need to have some knowledge of applied health research, health psychology, or a related area, and ideally have specific experience of research in the field of public health and knowledge of tobacco control research.
Excellent IT skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are essential. You will also be a good communicator, both in writing and orally, and able to work both independently as well as part of a team.
