We are looking for a research intern to work on a recently funded project concerning soil health data. The intern will work with lead investigators Dr Stuart King and Prof Jonathan Hillier to investigate the application of machine learning methods to recent soil health datasets.
The opportunity
This post arises from a recent AI-Bio grant and will kick-start collaboration between the lead investigators who are seeking to develop AI tools for applications in sustainable agriculture. A key issue where these new tools may be able to provide new insight is in soil management. Given the complex and dynamic nature of soils, traditional inferential approaches or dynamic simulation models, based on hypothesised relationships from limited controlled experiments poorly explain variance in out-of-sample studies. The project will seek to address this problem directly by subjecting available data to machine learning approaches.
