The A Side: A day in the life

To be a member of a team of IT managers and technical engineers reporting to the Head of Technical Services providing IT support across all areas of the Studios’ businesses and associated ventures. To help ensure that the studio’s facilities are fully operational, and the level of service provided is to the highest standard. The IT Technical Intern will be sufficiently qualified and skilled to undertake a range of requisite IT tasks whilst maintaining a professional and personable attitude.

This is a technical support role working within a 24-hour operation and therefore may include some late night and weekend working.

The B Side: Skills & experience

  • In conjunction with other members of the Technical Services department provide support for all departments’ engineering staff and clients to a high quality in an efficient and pro-active manner. This role is often subject to demanding situations i.e., assisting the set-up of systems and resolve faults in a timely manner under client scrutiny
  • To work closely with the Head of Technical Services and colleagues in the Technical Services department to learn the relevant technologies where necessary and develop in the role
  • To work closely with the Studios’ and UMG’s IT departments to support the IT infrastructure within the business
  • To assist the Studio’s IT department with user’s IT requests, computer and network configurations, monitoring of the back-up environment and the preparation of IT documentation
  • To assist Technical Services colleagues with the roll-out of new operating systems and software throughout all areas of the business
  • To assist the Head of Technical Services and the Site Services Manager to ensure that the provisions of the Health & Safety at Work Act and other workplace related legislation are observed ensuring that all relevant safe systems of work are properly applied and practised
  • To deal tactfully with the artists, the clients and the public at all times while passing on any significant concerns to colleagues or members of the Management team when and where necessary

Person specification

  • A recognised formal qualification in information and/or music technology
  • Experience and a strong understanding of both Mac and Windows operating systems
  • Supporting the maintenance of existing computer systems, including troubleshooting problems with hardware and software
  • An understanding of LAN/WAN networks, TCP/IP protocols and wireless network technologies
  • Supporting end-users around the studios with network device issues
  • An understanding of IT switches, servers, and storage technologies
  • Communicate with internal and external IT vendors for support calls and escalations
  • Assist in the implementation of new operating systems, security / anti-virus software updates, audio software and plug-ins for Mac and PC
  • An understanding of audio over IP technology i.e., Dante would be desirable
  • A wider understanding and experience of the recording studio environment would be highly beneficial
