The role
We are currently looking for a Graduate Teaching Associate in Data Science.
You will be situated in the School of Creative and Digital Industries. The purpose of the role is to support teaching and learning through the delivery of modules in conjunction with the Course Leader. Typical duties include tutorial class teaching; personal tutorial support; provision of feedback to students; course work assessment and examination marking.
As a Graduate Teaching Associate you will work toward a fee waived PhD within the school in an area of your choosing. After successful completion of the PhD you will automatically be promoted to Lecturer in the school.
Job purpose
The purpose of the role is to support teaching and learning through the delivery of modules in conjunction with the Course Leader. Typical duties include tutorial class teaching; personal tutorial support; provision of feedback to students; course work assessment and examination marking. The role will be required to:
- Teach and support students by adopting a learner-centred approach and being committed to contributing towards delivery of a first-class student experience.
- Contribute as part of the teaching team and to the wider work of the Department/School.
- Practice an inclusive approach and support building an inclusive university community where people can be themselves.
Main duties responsibilities of the role
- Act as a main point of contact for tutorial class teaching for one or more courses.
- Demonstrate enhancement activities, as appropriate, in the delivery of courses e.g., blended learning.
- In conjunction with the Course Leader, design and prepare teaching materials within the overall module/course framework. To include planning and delivering the curriculum using appropriate media.
- With support, undertake associated activities with the courses taught including personal tutoring; student recruitment; assessment, review and evaluation.
- Prepare standard materials and questions for discussion about the tutorial topic.
- Demonstrate techniques and how to use necessary equipment
- Provide guidance on how to produce work at an appropriate academic level.
- Provide guidance on preparation for examinations.
- Examination marking duties.
- Marking of assignments, essays and exams using solutions provided by the course leader.
- To provide effective feedback, support and guidance to students, which promotes improvement of performance.
- Management of late submission of assignments and refer this to the Course Leader, if required.
- General administration of the tutorial process, to include late submissions.
- Contribute to the student experience by delivering an excellent customer service as demonstrated in student feedback.
- Contribute to Open Days, school, college and partnership links and the marketing and promotional work of the Department and/or School.
- Deliver pastoral care to, and project supervision of, students.
- Engage in professional development activities (e.g., CPD, attendance at conferences) relating to teaching, learning and assessment.
- Maintain and foster the high reputation of the University in practice partner settings.
- Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices.
- Any other such reasonable duties as required by the Head of School / Deputy Head of School.
