Working in a fast-paced communications, public relations or marketing environment, you’ll learn the essential skills you need to start your career in these industries. You will have the opportunity to develop your written and verbal communication skills to reach a range of different audiences, including customers, the media, businesses, stakeholder groups and politicians. As a central part of the team you’ll be involved in key projects from the outset, creating campaigns, influencing how customers use London’s transport network and helping to shape TfL’s reputation.
Throughout your time, you will work collaboratively with other teams across the organisation, and gain an understanding of London transport as well as building your skills in communications, public relations and marketing.
What you’ll need
The Stuart Ross Communications Internship is a diversity initiative targeted at students of BAME background, defined as having some African, Afro-Caribbean, Asian or other non-white heritage. You must be studying, have recently graduated, or be a non-graduate who has no more than one year’s paid experience in the communications industry. These groups are under-represented regionally, and nationally, in communications, public relations, public affairs and marketing, which is why we created the Stuart Ross scheme.
You'll be
- Motivated to learn and gain experience during the internship at TfL
- Passionate about a career in communications, public relations, marketing or public affairs
- Team players who thrive on working with other people, as well as working independently
Where can this career take me?
Past interns have done the internship as a year in industry while at university, or once they have graduated. In both cases, this programme has been highly successful and our interns have gone on to work in communications or public relations roles in TfL as well as the Metropolitan Police, Crossrail Ltd, Marks & Spencer, NHS, local government and the Arts Council.
