The Associate Cost Controller will aim to help and support Cost Controller team members to meet the objectives of the projects within the Programme and report Infrastructure Programmes (IP) performance back to the wider business. The Associate Cost Controller will have an understanding of cost forecasting and tracking budgets, being able to identify any variances to planned budget and spend.
What you will be doing as an Associate Cost Controller
- Financial Management - Understanding of different avenues of project costs - including Value of Work Done (VOWD), Materials, Purchase Orders – and what departments/suppliers these costs relate to.
- Data Management - Ensure timely financial inputs from Project Managers by sending out deadline reminders to enable the review of Month End Actuals and Forecast.
- Project Reporting - Work to tight Month End deadlines to enable the delivery of cost reports to Finance, Senior Management, and wider Infrastructure Programmes teams in line with the business reporting requirements.
- Data Insight - Provide the relevant tools and reports to PMs to enable fine financial tracking of all project costs.
- Data Assurance - Work closely with the Cost Controllers to identify areas of improvement to benefit IP in governing our finances. Seek areas of improvements to project controls and processes, reviewing with the Cost Planning Team and supporting in delivering recommended enhancements.
- People & Culture - Support a highly performing team focused on briefing and delivering specified outputs in an efficient, effective, and commercially sound manner.
What you should bring to the role
- Familiarity with financial management.
- Analytical mindset who can provide clear data analysis & commentary.
- Ability to analyse data and explain findings verbally and visually.
- Strong collaborator. Being able to collaborate with colleagues to tackle key outcomes and specific problems and enable others to collaborate and detail performance.
- Build high-quality relationships and understand the roles/responsibilities of every stakeholder group and how your function brings value to them.
- Excel skills – working with large and multiple datasets.
- Understanding of reporting inputs and outputs.
- An accounting background is desirable.
- Previous experience with SAP and Power BI is desirable.
