The department

We are an award-winning and Top Tier Legal 500 Medical Negligence and Personal Injury Team, boasting one of the foremost groups of clinical negligence solicitors in the region. With a team of experts specialising in brain injury, cancer, psychiatric injury, obstetric and gynaecology cases. Our specialist team of solicitors and experts help our clients understand what happened; to help them access the best possible treatment, rehabilitation, compensation; and to be able to positively plan for the future.

The role

We have a new and exciting role for a Junior Cost Draftsperson. Experience is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided. A graduate in Maths, Finance or Accounting will be considered.

Your role will primarily be working alongside the Medical Negligence department and may include supporting the entire business.

You will assist with drafting through to negotiations; assisting the team with legal costs queries as cases progress; and keeping on top of and advising upon legal costs developments.

Proactively managing a portfolio of clients and anticipating their specific needs. Having oversight and providing a quality, tailored and supportive legal service to a wide range of clients.

  • Accountable for a mixed caseload of medical negligence costs matters with limited supervision. Provide high quality advice, proactively manage costs. Go that extra mile to provide excellent service.
  • Deliver costs services, in a manner which is cost-efficient to the firm.
  • Achieve the firm’s fee targets.
  • Manage time to effectively achieve KPIs, including time recording, lock-up, cash flow, aged disbursements, profitability and billing.
  • Undertake additional technical specialisms to support the strategy of the firm.
  • Contribute to the firm’s reputation and position within the community by virtue of reputation and values.

Person specification

  • 1 years + experience in costs is desirable not essential (Degree in Maths, Finance or Accounting will be considered)
  • Passionate and enthusiastic about cost work
  • Delivers a highly successful and high quality service
  • Demonstrates a methodical attention to detail
  • Demonstrates excellent problem solving and excellent research skills
