For this graduate programme, our minimum academic requirements are at least 3 B Grades at A level and to have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 degree. Coupled with these we look for candidates with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team who have an interest in the commercial world.

    These vacancy will be based in our Bolton office. We are committed to developing our own trainees’ careers and have members of our management team who started with Cowgills as trainees.

    Responsible for

    • assisting at a junior level on R&D tax relief claims and calling HMRC to chase up payment of claims
    • assisting in the process of preparing and collating information for tax due diligence purposes
    • assisting with the preparation and submission of ERS and EMI returns and communicating with clients/colleagues to collate information
    • assisting with the drafting of clearance applications, IHT reports, tax due diligence reports etc
    • researching key tax areas and clients
    • providing support to other team members as required

    Key responsibilities

    Technical responsibilities

    • Preparing initial emails to clients in relation to EMI/ERS returns required
    • Preparation and amendment of project summaries for R&D tax relief claims
    • Preparing skeleton reports to clients
    • Collating information required in order to ring HMRC
    • Preparation of company background and research
    • Analysis of EMI/ERS return filing submission status
    • Assisting with the preparation of reports for HMRC and clients
    • Other assistance on other areas of tax client work as required

    • Develops a good relationship and understanding of client in order to adapt approach and communication to ensure client satisfaction
    • Escalates more complex matters and queries and areas of risk to senior/manager as appropriate Team
    • Adopts a flexible work ethic, supporting others when they are under pressure

    Skills, knowledge and expertise

    • At least 3 B Grades at A level
