As a leader in the renewable energy industry, ScottishPower Renewables has ambitious plans for growth that will shape the future of sustainable energy. You can expect to see the expansion of our existing onshore and offshore wind portfolio, significant investment in large-scale solar deployment, and the development of innovative grid storage systems, including cutting-edge batteries.
This growth is crucial for enabling the UK’s green energy transition, and we want you to be a vital part of it. Currently, wind energy supplies 20% of the UK’s energy needs, with ScottishPower Renewables operating over 40 wind farms that contribute clean, green energy to the grid. Between 2020 and 2025, we’re investing more than £3.7 billion to enhance renewable capacity across the UK. However, with this increase in generation comes the responsibility to minimize our impact on nature and the environment.
As a member of our Onshore Renewables Team, you'll have the chance to address these ecological challenges in a supportive and engaging environment. You will work alongside dedicated professionals who share your commitment to sustainability, allowing you to expand your knowledge and skills in this rapidly evolving field. We provide hands-on experience that empowers you to engage in field research, data analysis, and community projects that make a real difference.
Together, we’ll drive meaningful change and work towards a greener future!
What you’ll be doing
With over 99 square kilometres of land around our renewable energy projects, our Ecology Team are responsible for providing benefits for our natural environment. With most of our projects being situated in the uplands, our work is focussed on peatland habitats and features extensive restoration of blanket bog.
We also have over 10 square kilometres of native woodland at varying stages of establishment from the far southwest up to the highlands and we expect this to continue grow. As an Ecology Graduate, you’ll support the delivery of our strategic objectives and conduct targeted monitoring to determine trends and progress.
You could support these restoration projects by helping guide and implement the practical restoration work and conduct surveys to obtain empirical data to analyse. You could also complete research into windfarm interactions with wildlife, particularly birds and bats, to further our understanding of windfarm effects and help inform the design of future projects.
What you’ll bring
As an Ecology Graduate in our Onshore Renewables Team, you will be passionate about the environment and eager to make a real difference, helping to shape the future of ecological research and conservation.
Your academic experience will have equipped you with a robust understanding of ecological principles and environmental science, providing insight into how ecosystems function and the interrelationships among organisms and their environment. You will also be familiar with statistical software and methods used for analysing ecological data, which will be essential in your role.
An effective communicator is a must, as you will need to convey complex ecological concepts to diverse audiences who may not share your level of understanding. Most importantly, your passion for conservation and genuine commitment to addressing environmental challenges will make your role pivotal in our fight to achieve Net Zero.
By supporting our strategic objectives and engaging in hands-on restoration projects, you will contribute significantly to our efforts in promoting sustainability and enhancing biodiversity within the context of renewable energy development.
