The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to work on our Scottish sites, with a recommended base in Glasgow and travel to our facilities in Stirling and Central Scotland. As a recent acquisition manufacturing an innovative new product for Roche, this role offers hands-on involvement with both cutting-edge technology and the integration of a newly acquired site.

Lumira’s processes generate clinical, hazardous, and non-hazardous waste, requiring careful management of chemicals, reagents, blood samples, plastics, adhesives, paper, and foils. Additionally, significant packaging is used to ship products to customers. Your role will focus on mapping waste across our end-to-end processes, identifying improvement opportunities, and driving sustainability initiatives that align with Roche’s long-term environmental commitments.
Beyond waste mapping, you will also support sustainability projects, including integrating Material Safety Data Sheets into SAP. You’ll collaborate with another intern of the same program covering sustainability of Diagnostic sensors, leveraging Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) , providing valuable cross-border and cross-despartmental experience in sustainability practices.
Who you are
You are currently enrolled in or have completed a Master’s degree within the last 12 months in process engineering, environmental science, or a related sustainability-focused field. Students currently moving into their final year in 2025 will also be suitable. You are eager to apply your expertise in a modern work environment through a minimum three-month internship, gaining insight into the medical device industry.
In addition you
- Are a strong communicator and networker, comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
- Possess influencing skills to drive sustainability initiatives across multiple operational sites.
- Have project management experience to lead and coordinate sustainability efforts.
- Are confident in delivering presentations and sharing insights from your work.

- Bring expertise (or an interest) in Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs).
- Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and their role in compliance.
If you meet most but not all of these qualifications, we still encourage you to apply!
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain real-world experience in sustainability within the medical device industry, contribute to impactful projects, and collaborate with an international team.
