We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Placement Student to join our Asset Integrity Management team in Derby. This placement will offer a rich learning environment and the chance to experience the professional application of managing third party assets through the implementation of engineering principles and techniques.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Asset Integrity Management team in delivering high-quality consultancy services within the Conventional Power and Clean Energy sectors.
  • Participate in the analysis of inspection and report data.
  • Gather data and information from a wide variety of sources, including but not limited non-destructive testing (NDT) reports, temperature assessment reports, materials analysis reports, FEA reports, technical drawings etc.
  • Produce formal technical reports and other project deliverables within agreed timescales.Collaborate with team members to support in the implementation of bespoke solutions to client challenges.
  • Undertake field assignments at power stations throughout the UK with experienced professionals to gain practical insights and apply classroom knowledge where appropriate.
  • Gain exposure to international standards and regulations related to power industry.

Educational requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, ideally with a focus on mechanical / materials or related fields.
  • Completed at least two years of undergraduate study with a good academic standing.
  • A hands-on approach with willingness to get involved with projects when required.

Skills and attributes

  • A base understanding of engineering principles, and material properties.
  • Understanding of failure mechanism, and inspection techniques (desirable)
  • A basic understanding of how a power station works (desirable)
  • A general interest in the energy sector.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, with an aptitude for learning new software and systems.
  • Effective communication and team collaboration skills.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with an eagerness to learn, alongside a problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks within agreed timeframes.
  • Legally authorised to work within the UK.

Additional information

  • Some travel to client sites may be required hence driving licence would be preferred.
