As a Technical Animation intern, you will learn about and help to maintain our in-game animation systems. You’ll implement animations via state machines and set up procedural systems such as FBIK and run time retargeting on a wide range of Rare’s uniquely styled characters. Working with the Engineering and Animation teams, you’ll help to bring our characters to life.

We are looking for an individual with a passion for both the creative and technical aspects of animation. The successful candidate should possess prior scripting experience and knowledge of animations state machines, and knowledge of UE4 is a bonus. This role is ideal for a problem solver with a creative technical mindset.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Implement animation within UE4 (e.g., via State Machines and Blueprint).
  • Create runtime procedural animation systems to reduce animation workload and improve believability/readability of characters in-game.
  • Work with Animation, Engineering and Design to enhance the overall look and feel of character movement in-game.
  • Carry out performance testing and optimisation.
  • Implement and maintain in-game technical animation solutions that are reliable, user-friendly and performant.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience creating animation state machines.
  • Good knowledge of animation and the processes involved in creating animations.
  • Moderate knowledge of one or more scripting languages such as Python/C++/C#. Blueprint experience is desirable
  • Hands on experience with Unreal Engine, though experience with other engines such as Unity is acceptable.
  • Knowledge of procedural runtime animation solutions such as IK/FBIK/retargeting/ragdoll would be a bonus.
  • Knowledge of animation software such as Maya, MotionBuilder or 3ds Max.
