Do you have a passion for Textiles? Could you help our students make and create cutting edge designs using a range of traditional and contemporary processes? If this sound like you, we have an exciting opportunity to join the University’s Textiles and Fashion Workshops technical team.

At Norwich University of the Arts, we champion transdisciplinary making and creating using traditional, digital and new emerging technologies. To support this we provide a range of high-quality workshops and technical resources where students can explore material and digital thinking to succeed in their creative ambitions.

    What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who can provide technical expertise, guidance and knowledge relating to Textiles design and production. You will help our students experiment and explore a broad range of technical processes and support the development of their professional skills and personal style. You will be overseeing a creative and busy workshop environment where students can learn their craft and develop skills using a variety of methods including textile screen printing, repeat printing, dyeing, foil and flock, heat transfer, Devore, natural dyeing and printing, resist printing and digital printing. Working with technical and academic colleagues you will design, prepare and deliver diverse schemes of technical instruction that inspire our students to experiment with materials and processes. You will also produce instructional materials to support your technical teaching and make these available on the university’s virtual learning environment to support student learning and technical skills development.

You will be focussed on working with students providing technical support, instruction, and advice to those studying on our highly successful Textiles and Fashion programme. We also encourage collaboration across disciplines so there will also be exciting opportunities to work with students across all of our creative courses.

We are looking for a great communicator, who is committed, willing to learn and enjoys problem solving, collaborating and working to their own initiative. You will be a skilled Textiles maker and creator, have proven experience of professional working practices relating to a range of textiles processes, and be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of fabrics, yarns and materials associated with contemporary textiles design and production.

Ideally, you will be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or have equivalent industry experience in a similar role. We are regularly investing in new technology and exploring different methods of production, so an active interest and awareness of industry trends, products, and developments is essential. We also have a Constructed Textiles facility and work with new digital trends so experience in specialist apps for Textile Design and processes including stitch knit, and weave processes would be advantageous.
