We are looking for someone who can contribute to oversight of projects, schemes, and works, manage risks, control costs, report and advice customers and clients of progress and risk.

About this role

This is a first or entry level appointment, the key objective in the role is gaining knowledge and experience in the job, studying for professional qualification and membership of the relevant professional body. At this level is working towards gaining formal qualification but is typically not qualified.

The role is subject to close supervision and all work is reviewed and signed off by more senior and experienced professionals. A trainee post for a professional surveyor, gaining experience. Requires some previous experience in a commercial environment.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Review and understand a client’s needs and assess plans, schemes, and schedules to ensure these are feasible.
  • Work out quantities and costs of materials, time, and labour for tenders and to meet customer or client requirements.
  • Negotiates contracts and work schedules with clients and customers and reach conclusions that are mutually beneficial and fully achievable.
  • Advise on legal matters, including risks and disputes associated with projects, works, schemes and variances such that implications of work are fully understood and communicated.
  • Monitor sub-contractors, stages, and progress of work, generate reports and management information for circulation and or communication.
  • Write regular reports on costs and prepare accounts for payment such that management and customers are appraised of progress, issues, and risks.
  • Research, maintain and update a library of methods, materials, and other surveying collateral to represent business, organisational and professional best practices.
  • Ensure and maintain knowledge of health and safety regulations relative to the environment or are of work, for example, building regulations and ensure these are respected in all work carried out.
