We have a fantastic opportunity for Graduate Town Planner to join our team based nationally with flexible working. Depending on level and experience, the salary on offer is up to £30,000 with 6% matched pension. We are looking for highly motivated Town Planning professionals to join our team to provide town planning advice and support in respect of our substantial and diverse estate across England.
About the role
The NHSPS town planning team is the only dedicated professional town planning team in the NHS. The management of our portfolio involves both development and disposal projects, as part of a strategic estate rationalisation programme. This includes both healthcare and non-healthcare related development and disposal projects.
Our portfolio is one of the largest in the UK, comprising more than 3,000 properties across England. At a total value of more than £3bn, this represents approximately 10% of the total NHS estate. Our properties range from Grade I listed buildings through to award-winning, state-of-the-art integrated health campuses and major strategic sites
Your role will help ensure that town planning work across our company is undertaken on a consistent basis within a clear framework to achieve successful outcomes that support our key workstreams including:
- Planning Applications
- Strategic Site Promotion
- Planning Policy Lobbying
- Developer Contributions (Section 106 / Community Infrastructure Levy)
- Technical Advice and Support
You will be required to enrol onto the RTPI or RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). Graduates will be provided full APC support with each assigned to a mentor and councillor. The Graduate Town Planner will develop over the initial two-year programme and will increase their mandatory, core and technical skills required for the APC process. You will be provided with a range of dedicated resources, a mentor, and Councillor to support you throughout the APC process. You will also be provided with dedicated protected time within the role to work on your APC submission.
What you will bring to the role
- Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) Accredited Degree in Town Planning or Planning and Development (or equivalent) or Chartered member (or eligible to become a ) member of the RTPI.
- Or Minimum 2 years post-degree experience in a town planning related role
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of town and country planning practice, policy and legislation in England.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of development management and planning policy practice
- Ability to negotiate successful town planning outcomes with a variety of stakeholders.
- Good organisation skills and ability to manage workload with frequent deadlines and sometimes similar deadlines.
- Excellent ability to analyse data and gather evidence to support a case
- Excellent report writing skills to draft succinct, evidence based reports for broad and specific audiences.
