The role

If you have a research background in Non-destructive Testing and Evaluation The School of Engineering at Newcastle University could be just the place for you.

The intelligent Sensing and Communication (ISC) Group is seeking to appoint a highly motivated researcher to support our EPSRC funded Impact Accelerator Account (IAA) project on “IoT Based Pulsed Eddy Current Evaluation for Corrosion and Defects of Lampposts (I-PEACE)”.

The ISC Group is prominent in the UK and has an international reputation for world-leading research across Sensors, Communications and Signal Processing with international Reputation for Non-destructive Testing and Evaluation (NDT&E), Structural Health Monitoring (SHM).

This project aims to commercialise our non-intrusive eddy current inspection systems for lamppost corrosion detection, hidden critical area in particular. We have already designed and developed a pulsed eddy current system and tested on our in-house testbed, TRL6), which still requires further development and testing to become a commercial solution.

The successful candidate will support the hardware and software design of remote pulsed eddy Current systems for IoT sensor applications. Within the project, the successful applicant will work on both aspects, the hardware and software design of this instrumentation system for NDT&E or SHM solutions.

The successful applicant will perform tasks under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, and work closely with a multidisciplinary team, external academic partners and industrial partners (EXATEC Ltd, Singapore).

We are committed to building and maintaining a fair and inclusive working environment and we would be happy to discuss arrangements for flexible and/or blended working.
