Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains are based in Brixworth, Northamptonshire where our highly talented and ambitious team of over 1000 people are responsible for the design, manufacture, testing and racing of Formula 1 power units enjoying enormous success with our partner team Mercedes-AMG F1 and Customer Teams. Additionally, we have our pioneering Advanced Technologies Team who transfer F1 technologies and know-how into high performance automotive projects and products such as the Mercedes-AMG ONE and the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.
The roots of our business stretch back to 1984 and the foundation of Ilmor Engineering. Since 1995 our team based in Brixworth Northamptonshire have been responsible for the design and development of every single Formula One engine to wear the Mercedes-Benz badge. Renamed Mercedes-Ilmor Ltd in 2002, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG in 2005, operating under the name of Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines – later switching to High Performance Powertrains.
About the role
- Build a foundational understanding the F1 powertrain sub systems, a crucial first step in the career path to working trackside.
- Be responsible for analysing data generated during testing of subcomponents of an F1 powertrain, use this data to assess their heath and performance, generate and distribute reports of these findings to the wider business.
- Produce and develop the documentation required for running an F1 powertrain
- Proactively drive the improvement and evolution of the software used for subcomponent testing.

Hold these qualifications
- Degree with 2:1 classification or above in a relevant subject
(e.g. Engineering, Physics, Aerospace, Software etc.)
Be
- Highly proactive and engaging, capable of chasing information around the business from Engineering requests to Programme & Trackside requirements
- Meticulous and focussed with great attention to detail, especially regarding parts inspection and data analysis
- A decisive thinker who’s able to understand Programme requirements quickly and accurately

Success in this role will be if you
- Support and develop the sub systems hardware pass off tests and data review to ensure that there are no failures at track
- Improve efficiency through updating of software tool and process
- Interact closely with Product Engineering, Build and Programme Management to report directly to the Chief Engineer on the condition and suitability of the hardware and PU’s for their allocated usage
- Challenge and assist Product Engineering during failure investigation processes
