London Metal Exchange are currently looking for a Sustainability Apprentice to join their team in London!
The Sustainability Apprentice role sits within the CEO Office, in the Chief of Staff team. The Chief of Staff team plays a central role within the CEO office and the wider organisation, providing comprehensive support to the CEO across all company activities, projects and external relationships.
It is also responsible for the LME’s sustainability activities. The LME has established itself as a market leader in setting sustainability standards and expectations for the metals traded on the Exchange – and takes very seriously the opportunity to introduce genuine change within the metals industry.
Key Responsibilities
Working alongside the VP – Sustainability and the broader team to:
Responsible sourcing
- Support LME-listed brand producers of nine metal categories to understand and achieve compliance with the LME’s responsible sourcing rules
- Work with brands on achieving environmental and health & safety management system certifications
- Input, track and follow up on producer progress using LME Salesforce
- Review and compare qualifications of potential partners with the LME, including standards, auditors, and alignment assessors
- Monitor progress of two international development projects (funded through an LME charitable donation) focussed on reducing child labour at mine sites, and support LME’s reporting on them
Broader sustainability
- Engage with producers of LME-listed brands and external stakeholders (e.g. Audi, Ford and Apple) on the LME’s efforts to introduce greater Environmental, Social, Governance (“ESG”)-related transparency by encouraging disclosures on LMEpassport
- Work with world-renowned providers of third party independent ESG/CSR standards and certifications on providing tools for producers, and listing their standards on LMEpassport
- Ensure sustainability data is accurate and assist with timely uploads of new disclosures, and new certifications to LMEpassport
- Identify and analyse future opportunities/developments to inform the next steps of the LME’s strategy
LME net zero
- Assist the VP – Sustainability with the development and implementation of LME net-zero plan
- Help create and deliver internal sustainability training, developing presentation skills
- Provide guidance and information to staff on the LME’s carbon reduction plan
- Support the sustainability team in collecting more accurate and detailed staff-related emissions data (e.g. staff commuting)
- Analyse data, suggesting ideas for development of LME’s path to net-zero
- Provide accurate reporting and track progress over time
- Support LME’s work to join and remain compliant with TCFD reporting
Written communications/reporting
- Support delivery of – including written content – LME’s regular sustainability newsletter
- Provide website and intranet content to ensure LME sustainability pages remain up to date and accurate
- Provide information to LME Marketing and Corporate Communications teams to allow full support of sustainability initiatives (e.g. social media posts)
- Provide accurate reporting on LME initiatives to HKEX Group
General
- Attend external meetings and conferences when and where necessary
- Provide research support to the wider team on sustainability issues
- Follow and support policies, procedures, initiatives, and work instructions related to sustainability improvement and environmental compliance
- Perform any other duties commensurate with the job as reasonably required
- Excel in all apprenticeship scheme requirements and exams
Entry Requirements
You’ll need to attend an online Zoom screening interview with our Talent Team (don’t worry, we’re a friendly bunch!) and pass initial assessments in Maths and English.
