About the role
Our 12-month long industrial placement programme offers you the chance to develop your technical, consultation and environmental skills alongside developing key business and leadership skills such as business development, people leadership, business management and digital. With dedicated leadership support, an agile approach to learning and developing we will help you develop your skills and follow your passions and develop hands-on experience in the breadth and depth of our amazing business.

Jacobs is looking for enthusiastic undergraduate engineers for an internship to work on exciting opportunities delivering solutions for challenging environments within our team based at Birchwood, Warrington.
What you'll do
You would have the opportunity to work on innovative projects for critical applications such as:
- Nuclear decommissioning where we are developing robotics and computer vision technology to be deployed to site,
- Supporting projects in nuclear fusion for ITER in France or other UK based projects
- Developing tools for Fukushima in Japan.
We offer the opportunity to work on impactful challenges for the most extreme environments working with our experience engineering teams at our Birchwood site which includes large scale and specialist laboratories and workshops.

Key responsibilities include
- Hands on rig work ranging from small scale science rigs to full size mock up rigs
- Work on the full lifecycle of applications from design to maintenance.
- Undertaking small and large-scale trials, involving simulations and robotics hardware and test rig equipment.
- Work independently but also alongside colleagues and collaboration partners.
- Presentation of progress and results in formal document formats and presentations to colleagues and project stakeholder
What you'll need
Essential
- Candidates are required to have completed two years of an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering.
- Passionate about solving engineering challenges across fusion, fission, decommissioning or military applications
- Independent and proactive, with energy and enthusiasm.
- Good communication skills and be able to prepare clear and concise written technical reports.
Desirable
- Knowledge or interest in robotics
- Knowledge of nuclear technology
- Appreciation of testing, verification, and validation.
