Working closely with our volunteer Development Officer and payroll team, this important role supports our excellent team of staff and volunteers. Managing all aspects of staff recruitment, development and wellbeing provision.
We are seeking a colleague with experience in managing people and recruitment procedures and policies in operational and managerial settings. Supervision and support can be offered to those in their early career who are wanting to learn and develop their skills, or this could be an interesting and fulfilling role for people who already have a great deal of HR experience.
Key accountabilities
- Make sure that vacancies are recruited effectively and in line with Church of England Safer Recruitment policy and best practice
- Support managers with appropriate advice and helping them through any line management matters
- Administer all employment documentation, including starting, leaving and annual review paperwork
- Plan and participate in comprehensive induction programmes for staff
- Work with the Volunteer Development Officer to plan and help to deliver a structured and innovative training and development programme for staff and volunteers
- Regularly review and update the staff handbook and relevant policies and procedures and work with the Volunteer Development Officer to ensure consistency with the volunteer handbook
- Act as the main point of contact for the cathedral’s Nominations and Development committee which oversees governance and senior appointments
- Regularly review and improve the cathedral’s range of staff benefits and wellbeing support
- Develop the cathedrals knowledge, systems and policies in line with developments in best practice and legislation
- Administer an accurate payroll function, providing effective communication to paid staff
Technical skills/experience
- Understanding of employment legislation
- Ability to use a variety of employment, payroll and volunteer management software
- Previous experience of working in a hr role or similar
- Qualifications in appropriate fields of study
- CIPD or equivalent accreditation would be an advantage
- Experience operating payroll software
