This role is available full-time for 37 hours per week or part-time with a minimum coverage of 28 hours between Monday and Friday.

The role
Do you want to learn more about engineering but feel you don’t have the skills? Do you want to help protect national security and really make a difference?
As a trainee, you’ll learn new skills, gain experience and be creative whilst developing a new career in a purpose-built advanced manufacturing facility with amazing bespoke equipment and cutting-edge technology, producing products through the whole lifecycle. Our team have a wide range of experience and they’re keen to share it with you as you progress your career with us.
You’ll receive all the training, support and guidance you’ll need as you learn skills to enable you to help manufacture products and play an integral part in protecting national security. You’ll learn on the job, whilst also having a training budget to use for external courses.
You will join one of the following teams:
Design and prototyping
You’ll gain experience, supported by an experienced mentor, in design and prototyping components and assemblies from raw material to specifications and designs provided. You’ll design and produce appropriate tooling jigs and fixtures to facilitate the production of items. You’ll be introduced to quality assurance techniques and will develop the knowledge and skills to become an efficient and effective Design and Prototyping Engineer.
Wiring and assembly
You’ll gain experience, supported by an experienced mentor, in assembling and building high quality components and products according to the drawings and documentation provided. You’ll use a variety of techniques, including: soldering; wiring; and box build. You’ll be introduced to verification techniques and will develop the knowledge and skills to become an efficient and effective Wiring and Assembly Engineer.

Putting your skills to use
As you progress in your role, you will:
- Develop and maintain the application, knowledge and skills that are necessary to be an efficient and effective manufacturing engineer.
- Ensure that equipment is safe and appropriately maintained, where possible using preventative measures.
- Carry out an appropriate level of verification and peer review of manufacturing output.
- Be aware of policies, processes and procedures connected to your work and tailor these to meet the needs of specific circumstances.
- Ensure you are accurately logging the tasks completed to allow manufacturing to collate metrics and measures for reporting the continuous improvement activities.
- Produce appropriate as-built documentation to allow products to be supported and improve their future manufacture.
