Graduate Development at GHD
GHD’s Graduate Program is aimed at developing our future leaders and technical specialists.
During our two-year global graduate development programme our Graduate Engineers will work with our Engineering teams developing skills across a wide variety of projects in the Transport, Water, Energy, Industrial, Property and Buildings sectors both in the UK and overseas. Your contribution will make a positive lasting benefit to the environment and our communities.
Whilst learning about our business, our values, your team, and most importantly, yourself you will develop your decision-making, communication, technical and leadership skills.
We offer mentoring and a variety of development activities, providing on the job experience and exposure to a diverse range of projects, as well as support towards gaining chartered status within your Engineering field.
About the role
If you are enthusiastic and a motivated individual with a keen interest in transport and public realm design? Do you have excellent design and problem-solving skills, with the ability to generate practical and innovative solutions that will benefit future communities? If this sounds like you, then we’d love to talk to you!
Based in our London or Guildford office, you will work in the Urban Design team as well as supporting the Transport Planning, Traffic Engineering and wider Transport teams.
Core responsibilities
You are likely to work on a portfolio of different projects and will apply your acquired skills and knowledge in a range of environments. Your role and responsibilities will develop as your knowledge of our business increases, but initially you will be required to:
- Providing inputs to and assisting in the resolution of complex technical issues on multi-disciplinary urban highway, transport and public realm schemes.
- Producing high quality designs and drawings from concept stage through to detailed design using AutoCAD and 3D modelling.
- Assisting with the analysis of data and compilation of reports under supervision
- Attend sites when required to carry out and/or assist with surveys and site audits
- Liaise with and assist team members working within the section
- Keep up to date with current developments within the area of operation as well as gaining a wider knowledge of the Transport sector.
Skills, experience and qualifications

- Have a Class 2.1 degree or above in Civil Engineering. Other relevant subjects will be considered.
- Be able to apply engineering principles, and have an aptitude for design development
- Be highly numerate with a focus on problem solving
- Have excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Be a positive and enthusiastic team player
- Have a keen attention to detail
- Have strong communication skills and enjoy working in a collaborative environment.
- Have a growing commercial awareness and the capacity to work with a diverse range of clients and projects
- Be an agile learner, actively learning through experimentation and experience and seeking ways to grow and to be challenged
