The team
Farrer & Co's Corporate team has a market-leading profile in complex, high-value transactional and advisory work in the private capital sector. We are recognised as being pre-eminent in the sector and the majority of our work is private company orientated. Our clients include investors (including VC and PE firms and private individuals), established entrepreneurs, global high net worth individuals and their businesses, international family offices and trust companies as well as professional partnerships, management teams and individual executives.
We have particular focus on the private wealth and financial services sectors as well as property, education and media. A significant volume of our corporate work includes an offshore element and we deal regularly with assets in the Middle East and the US as well as the major offshore jurisdictions, such as the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Jersey and Guernsey.
Scope
The Corporate Team is looking for a junior Associate who will work with other Associates and Partners from across the team. The successful candidate will contribute to the continued success of the team which has seen very significant growth in recent years. They will have the opportunity for direct client contact and transaction experience from early on. They will be expected to assist senior associates and partners on transactions and to have responsibility for elements of various deals including investments, M&A and JV work. There will be work from across the Corporate Team that covers private company M&A, investments, joint ventures, board advice, partnerships, advisory and restructuring work. A genuine interest in and willingness to be involved with Business Development in our key sectors would be an advantage.
Responsibilities
The role will have a varied and interesting mix comprising day to day advisory work alongside transactional projects. It will include supporting senior fee earners on all key transaction documents (SPA, investment agreements, JVAs) and responsibility for leading on some aspects such as due diligence, disclosure, research and transaction management. It will require coordination with the firm's high-profile employment, tax and commercial teams on investments and acquisitions. The candidate will be expected to act in a key support role to senior fee earners on transactional matters, operating with a high degree of autonomy and taking responsibility for elements of the transaction, liaising with the lead fee earners and delegating to trainees or support staff where appropriate.
Skills and experience
- 0-2 years PQE
- High level of technical knowledge in the area of corporate law, especially private company M&A and investments.
- Excellent organisational skills with and strong interest and enthusiasm in respect of transactional work.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-starting approach to tasks and projects and ability to work on own initiative and be comfortable leading a small project team.
- Ability to think laterally and apply knowledge and experience to a broad range of transactions and clients.
- Efficient communication skills and the ability to pitch the advice to the person receiving it.
- The ability to deal with many matters at any one time.
Person specification
- An ability to deal calmly and with authority commensurate with experience and to work to tight deadlines is essential.
- An enthusiasm for teamwork, dealing with people, and an ability to assume responsibility and deal efficiently with a varied and often demanding workload will also be a key requirement.
- The candidate will be expected quickly to become an integral part of an established and highly regarded team.

The hours of work for this opportunity are 09:30am-5:30pm but it is essential to be committed, flexible and prepared to work beyond the normal office hours when necessary and in response to client demand.
You will be expected to follow the firm’s agile working policy, which embraces home working but will require employees to spend a minimum number of days each week in the London office. The Corporate team operates a weekly “anchor day” system.
