You will join a recently created TRACTEBEL entity with very ambitious goals and exceptional projects. Created to support projects localised in the UK, the entity’s mission is to promote TRACTEBEL as a key player of the nuclear business in the UK.

Tractebel is part of a consortium in charge of the design and detailing of the reinforced concrete structures of the Nuclear Island of Hinkley Point C (HPC) Nuclear Power Plant, currently one of the world’s largest construction projects. HPC is set to be the benchmark for future construction of similar projects in the UK such as Sizewell C (SZC).

Your role

As ‘Junior Fire Safety Engineer’, you will be in charge of the following activities, in close relation with the Project Managers, the Fire Experts, the Client (external & internal):

  • participate to feasibility studies, design studies, modification studies of fire, explosion and internal flooding protection installations, following applicable regulations and standards or in house methodologies;
  • participation to audits and diagnostic of fire, explosion and internal flooding protection installations;
  • with the support of a Senior Fire Safety Engineer, perform internal fire, explosion and flooding calculation and simulation studies:
  • perform risk analysis following applicable methods and determine suitable and pragmatic recommendations that cope with the project and client’s objectives/constraints;
  • perform risk analysis defining scenario and identifying assumptions, choice of the correct model, collection and implementation of the data into the model, calculations, analysis of the results, drafting the synthesis;
  • validate the coherence between the required and existing protection/detection means.
  • include requirements from other competence centres, project safety referential, plant safety report, insurer, codes, norms, standards and regulations;
  • check study compliance with on-site situation (walk-downs), include the Return of Experience (REX) and draft the reports;
  • determine and recommend suitable on site adaptations (protection/detection means);
  • present and share analyses with the client;
  • ensure budget, planning and studies scope are compliant with project and client requirements;
  • participate to equipment and services procurement with the support of a buyer and a Senior Fire Engineer:
  • writing technical specifications;
  • preparation of the call For tenders: Technical Requisition File (TRF), Design Review with the Client, Draft Purchase Order, sourcing strategy;
  • launch the call for tenders and review of the supplier’s bids;
  • perform the technical clarifications/bid alignment, and support the procurement stakeholders during the commercial negotiations with the suppliers;
  • award Purchase Orders (PO);
  • contract Management: follow-up of the contractor’s activities including associated reporting: review studies, manufacturing in close cooperation with the quality monitoring stakeholders and with the client, installation on-site and start-up, follow-up of the payment schedule and prospective variation orders;
  • perform contract closure activities: provisional acceptance, punch list, contractor’s evaluation, after action review and REX.

You will collaborate actively with your colleagues from Project Management and Competence Centre departments, and build a close relationship while working for the same goal, actively developing cross department projects for your Clients.

You embody the image and values of TRACTEBEL and the Engie group (Ethics, QHSE,…) in all your contacts, both inside and outside the ENGIE group, and other external stakeholders.

Your profile

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • you have the drive to become a technical expert in this field;
  • you recently graduated from university holding a relevant master level engineering degree (Mechanical engineer, Fire safety Engineer, Nuclear Engineer is an asset);
  • you are familiar with fire safety and/or fluid mechanics modelling;
  • you are proficient with calculation & simulation software (Magic, Sylvia, FDS/Pyrosim, Flashcat, or equivalent);
  • you master the English language (any knowledge of French, though not required, would be a plus);
  • you hold or are eligible to hold BPSS level clearance;
  • you possess good computer and data processing skills;
  • you are able to draft reports, technical papers, and synthesis documents;
  • you have the ability to work autonomously, but are not afraid to ask questions;
  • you have an inquisitive and critical mind;
  • you are flexible and creative in finding technical solutions;
  • you are methodical, conscientious, organized, team-player, innovative, client-oriented.
