EIP specialises in high-value and complex patent matters with offices in Europe and the US. Our multidisciplinary team combines patent attorneys, litigators and commercial IP lawyers in three of the world’s main patent markets – Germany, UK and USA, and now also in the Nordics through our recent expansion into Sweden. EIP has an ever-growing client base, from major multinationals through exciting mid-stage IP-rich companies, to highly innovative start-ups, across the world.

The approach to progress is highly meritocratic, with patent attorneys at all levels receiving support through a sophisticated training program. New trainees get exposure to clients from the day of joining. Those who join us share in the team's stand-out visibility in the world of patents and get to celebrate our award wins.

Since 2018 EIP has been a five-time winner of European and UK Patent Contentious Firm of the Year by leading IP magazine, Managing IP while The Financial Times lists EIP as a leading European patent law firm, recently awarding EIP the highest possible ranking (gold stars across all six technology areas). Feedback received from clients and peers rates EIP as “unstuffy and its staff are very personable”, with “excellent technical and legal expertise”, and they “combine an exceptional professional ethic with impressive technical diligence”.

Diversity is an intrinsic part of EIP’s business culture. We are proud to support the IP Inclusive initiative and we are a signatory to the IP Inclusive Charter. EIP actively engages in diversity efforts and is committed to developing an attitude of openness for the benefit of all those working in the IP profession.

About the vacancy

EIP is proud to offer opportunities to those seeking an insight into the day-to-day life of a patent attorney. It is the perfect way to be exposed to all that a career in patent law has to offer and will enable you to decide whether it is the right path for you.

Each year we have openings during the month of June to spend two weeks with one of our practice groups as an Intern. This is a paid opportunity and our Interns will receive an allowance for the duration of the internship. As an Intern at EIP, you will:

  • Join informative induction sessions into life at our firm
  • Attend training sessions designed to provide further insight into topics such as, but not limited to, the basics of patent protection, the role of a patent attorney, working as a trainee and key IP rights and laws
  • Shadow your mentor and assist with various tasks designed to provide a representative insight into the typical work of a patent attorney

Our interns are assigned a mentor and supervisor for the duration of the internship. The mentor will typically be either a current patent scientist, associate or senior associate and the supervisor will typically be one of our partners. Both will have a specialism in the technical area that best aligns with your interest and academic background.

In addition, those who are successful in receiving an offer of an internship will be considered for a permanent patent scientist/trainee patent attorney opportunity during the internship.

Skills, experience & qualifications

We are seeking individuals who are curious about intellectual property and have a keen interest in patents. You will be in the process of undertaking a bachelors and/or masters degree with a physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or similar high-tech background.
