This role is located in Sciantec, within the Cawood Scientific Agriculture Division. With over 30 years’ experience in the agri and aquaculture sectors, Sciantec, part of Cawood Scientific, offers a complete analytical service for feedingstuffs, ingredients, raw materials, compound feed, meals, premixes, and forages. Our expertise in animal feed safety and nutrition, combined with modern testing facilities and broad analytical capacity, enables our ISO 17025 accredited laboratory to deliver specialist services for all associated sectors, including feed mills, pet foods, research and development, and commodities traders.

    What you'll do

    • Proactively managing the workload. This would include where applicable, help with other work as and when required
    • Have a good understanding of aseptic technique good lab practice that is required within the lab and helping to maintain standards by noticing and reporting issues to the Team Leader or Section Manager
    • Having a more in depth knowledge and understanding of some methods, and being able to help develop methods and carry out pre-planned method validation work when required.
    • Be involved in the training and guidance of staff where applicable.
    • Be able to carry out routine and non-routine maintenance where applicable.
    • Contribute towards problem solving.
    • Conduct the Salmonella method from start to finish including confirmation of positive results
    • Conduct confirmations for other bacteria
    • To communicate with all co-workers in a professional manner if there are any discrepancies/queries and taking charge of ensuring emails are addressed and dealt with promptly or within a reasonable timescale.
    • Sorting of samples and ensuring they correspond with the relevant paperwork
    • Correctly report all samples into LIMS.
    • Prepare dry culture media in line with our Standard Operating Procedures
    • Understand and follow the Standard Operating Procedures provided.
    • Maintain Cawood credibility by always portraying a positive image by keeping equipment and PPE clean.
    • Respect company equipment ensuring to use them as per guidelines and to report any damage to management as soon as possible.
    • Work as a team and maintaining morale and actively offer help and assistance wherever possible.
    • Responsible for keeping safety at the forefront of lab work and being proactive ensuring accidents and near misses are always reported straightaway to Managers in line with our company accreditation and policy.
    • When required, assist with on-site training of new employees providing proactive support ensuring there onboarding into the company is friendly, engaging, and inspiring.
    • Use of the following instrumentation, after successful training, balances, incubators, autoclaves, preparators, dilumats and pipettes
    • To complete training to be a Fire Marshall, First Aider or Internal Auditor as required
