British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Flavourist in Southampton.
Key objectives and expectations
This role uses flavour science and develops sensory perception expertise to work on the development of new and innovative flavours and flavour ranges across a range of categories and platforms which meet marketing, product development and regulatory criteria.
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
Works on the development and qualification of new flavours and flavour ranges with the Senior Flavourist and Flavourist II to deliver and support the business and product needs and develop own capability and that of less experienced flavourists.
Your key responsibilities will include
- Uses technical expertise to deliver work to develop and qualify a flavour, range of flavours or flavour options that meet the needs and specifications from marketing and product development specifications, so that they can be scaled up and manufactured to meet launch targets.
- Use flavour science and developing sensory expertise to support and develop flavours to meet product requirements and specifications.
- Ensures the confidentiality of all flavour ingredients and compositions which ensure the uniqueness of BAT flavours.
- Collaborate across functions including Product Development, Procurement, Quality Assurance and Manufacturing, as well as external vendors, to support the delivery of successful outcomes within specified timelines.
- Develops own skills and capabilities to enhance and personal capability and to build the uniqueness and consistency of the BAT product flavours.
What are we looking for?
- Background in food science, flavours, perfume, or scents.
- Experience in flavour development.
- Developing knowledge and experience of flavour regulatory requirements.
- Project management, time management, team collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Expertise in the science and chemistry of flavours.
- Developing a sensory perception and experience of working with flavours and flavour combinations.
- Understanding of the regulations affecting flavour ingredients.
- Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal/external capabilities.
- Ability to plan and prioritise tasks based on business need.
- Degree-level qualification in a related field (Chemistry) and an understanding of flavour chemistry.
