Our civil and structural engineering teams are proactive in anticipating and solving challenges and look to apply technology to refine design, increase efficiency and improve buildability. This temporary paid placement role is suitable for C&S undergraduates having completed their second year of study.
About the role
An opportunity exists for a second-year undergraduate civil and structural engineer to join the Manchester studio for between 4 to 6 weeks during the summer of 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to experience working in a multidisciplinary building design practice. Working as part of a team you will provide assistance with the production of construction information and/or progressing and delivering the structural engineering design on one or more projects, supported by your project manager. Specific tasks will vary depending on the project and stage but are likely to include:
- Working closely with your project manager to assist the team in converting conceptual thinking into developed design
- Attending design reviews
- Assisting in the preparation of the structural engineering calculations, drawings and specifications at scheme, detailed and production stages using the available IT and CAD tools
- Attending team design reviews, client and / or site meetings, as required.

About you
- You will have completed two years at university on a relevant degree course, be a self-starter and able to work independently
- You will have an understanding/awareness of innovations in building design and structural engineering technology including sustainable design
- You will be familiar with CAD software such as AutoCAD and Revit
- You will also have an understanding of relevant health and safety legislation.
