The role

The Global Infrastructure Debt team is seeking a Programme Analyst, based in Barings’ London office to assist the team with the full financing process from transaction analysis and underwriting to monitoring existing investments.

With offices in London and New York, the Global Infrastructure Debt team has a long and successful track record in infrastructure investments with $15+ billion assets under management. The team invests proprietary capital from Barings’ parent, Massachusetts Mutual Financial Group, alongside third parties via separately managed accounts. Barings’ Global Infrastructure Debt team invests across the credit spectrum in asset subsectors including renewable power generation, conventional power generation, transmission and distribution, midstream and energy related assets, core infrastructure, and social infrastructure, among others.

The Analyst Programme is designed to provide junior professionals the opportunity to learn about asset management while working closely with senior professionals. Analyst Programme tasks include financial modelling, forecasting, preparation of underwriting memoranda, asset valuation, portfolio management and reporting on existing investments, and active participation in training and team-building activities.

Primary responsibilities

  • Participate in credit underwriting and portfolio management activities.
  • Participate in the deal process including review of independent engineer and market consultant reports.
  • Assist in performing financial analysis on potential debt issuers including review of historical financial performance, market analysis, review of financial projections and sensitivity analysis via financial modelling.
  • Assist in preparation of investment memos containing written description of issuer operations, project rationale, industry dynamics, financial performance, and presentation of detailed financial projections.
  • Support management of the portfolio of existing investments. Support team in ensuring compliance with financial covenants, recommending appropriate risk ratings and supporting portfolio management processes.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with a planned completion date of 2025 and anticipated classification of 2.1 or 1st
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, and sourcing data from the internet and various technology publications
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a fast-paced, transaction oriented team
  • Ability to prioritise work and multi-task responsibilities
  • Willingness to travel
