    The role

    The Junior Software Engineer plays a key role in supporting the software development team by contributing to the delivery of high-quality software solutions. Reporting to the Systems Director, the Junior Software Engineer will collaborate and actively participate in development solutions adhering to coding standards, and continuous improvement efforts.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop high-quality, testable, and maintainable software solutions under guidance from senior team members.
    • Follow coding standards and established workflows to ensure consistency and quality.
    • Actively participate in the full Software Development Lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and deployment.
    • Address development support tickets, escalating when necessary.
    • Work closely with stakeholders and team members to understand requirements and assist in translating them into technical solutions.
    • Participate in scoping, estimation, and planning of development work using iterative/agile approaches, whilst gaining a sound understanding of effort estimation.
    • Take ownership of assigned tasks, ensuring tickets and Monday boards are kept up-to-date with key details, including call notes, scope updates, and progress.
    • Contribute to a culture of collaboration and knowledge exchange within the team and wider business
    • Participate in code reviews, learning from feedback and offering constructive suggestions as confidence grows.
    • Follow and adopt workflow best practices to support team efficiency and consistency

    Essential/desirable skills

    • Expertise in PHP working within a commercial setting and development team
    • Experience using the Laravel framework
    • Fundamental understanding of OOP
    • Fundamental knowledge of HTML, Javascript & CSS
    • Passion for crafting elegant, testable code with scalability as a core consideration.
    • Strong communication skills capable of conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
