Job Description
We’re looking for three people to join us for 6-week paid internships in Summer 2022. You’ll start on or around 18th July. No prior work experience or knowledge of insurance is necessary – all you need is an interest in working with us and a desire to learn more about the insurance and long-terms savings industry.
As well as gaining valuable work experience and getting involved in the day-to-day work of the ABI, you’ll be running your own project so you have something tangible to take from your time here and you can have a real impact on our organisation.
We want you to get the most from your experience and our hope is that you’ll work in both in our London office and at home. However, we are open to discussions on fully remote working for those based further afield.
For us, it’s the people that make our organisation a great place to work. By joining us, you’ll be joining a culture where 100% of our people feel colleagues within their team respect each other.
About us:
The Association of British Insurers is the voice of the UK’s world-leading insurance and long-term savings industry. A productive and inclusive sector, our industry supports towns and cities across Britain in building back a balanced and innovative economy, employing over 310,000 individuals in high-skilled, lifelong careers, two-thirds of which are outside of London.
Our members manage investments of over £1.7 trillion, collect and pay over £16 billion in taxes to the Government and support communities across the UK by enabling trade, risk-taking, investment and innovation.
We are also a global success story, the largest in Europe and the fourth largest in the world.
The ABI represents over 200 member companies, including most household names and specialist providers, giving peace of mind to customers across the UK.
The Internships:
As well as getting involved with day-to-day business activities, you’ll have you own project to work on. You’ll be supported by a project sponsor and given the resources you’ll need.
Here’s an idea of the projects on offer:
Climate Change: learn about our climate priorities and how the industry is tackling this and then deliver a variety of projects relating to how our members are performing in this area.
Long-Term Savings policy team: investigate and map the market that our members operate in and identify potential new future members for the ABI, as well as discovering connections for the ABI to reach out to.
Health & Protection policy team: complete a literature review to support our health outcomes project. You’ll learn about key policy areas within the health and protection industry and the societal value of insurance, while gaining lots of exposure to key industry stakeholders.
We’re looking for:
There’s absolutely no minimum work or education requirements to intern with us. What’s important is your attitude to your work, your fellow colleagues and how curious you are about the world around you.
We’ll be looking at how you demonstrate our values, so it’s worth reading up on them here before applying.
Broadly speaking, we’ll be looking for:
Curiosity and willingness to learn, ask questions and challenge your own thinking.
Ability connect facts to draw conclusions and themes together.
The ability to research a subject matter and then present your findings simply and in a way that’s accessible for your audience.
Good relationship building skills and that you treat others as individuals and with respect.
You to be proactive and take accountability and ownership for delivering high quality work.
Solid writing skills with a good standard of written and spoken English.
What can you expect from the recruitment process?
In your application, we’ll ask you questions to test some of the key skills we’re looking for, including one multiple choice question. They’re designed so anyone can answer them, regardless of background and experience, but we’ll want to see you’ve thought about the internship opportunity and why the ABI is for you.
Those with the highest scoring applications will be invited to an assessment centre held across one or two days between 13 and 17 June. You’ll receive a thorough briefing in advance, so you know exactly what to expect.
