Abbey School for Exceptional Children is a bespoke independent special school for children and young people with autism, whom may have additional learning difficulties and behaviours that challenge.
About the role
We have a new and exciting opportunity for recent graduates to work with us here at Abbey School! We are currently offering a bespoke training programme to work with our highly skilled team of staff for three weeks in July. This is for graduates who have a degree in a relevant field and who have a passion for special educational needs.
Whilst in post on the graduate programme you will be immersed in our comprehensive induction training that has been designed in strategic partnership with two leading UK universities, and you will also shadow and observe our staff supporting pupils in the classrooms. You will learn about the roles of our behaviour analysts, occupational therapist, and speech and language therapist, and how they work together with our teachers to deliver the highest quality of education to our pupils. Our staff team work together to assess each pupil’s strengths and development areas, prioritise targets and design personalised learning support plans for all pupils. It is such a fantastic opportunity that we are offering a training programme for graduates to observe, experience and learn what our highly skilled team of staff deliver.
As part of the three week programme, you will shadow our Learning Mentors who work with pupils both individually and in small groups supporting them to overcome barriers to learning, delivering teaching, providing positive behaviour support and delivering other focused interventions. You will also benefit from observing our teachers whilst in class, who are responsible for planning, delivering, monitoring and assessing teaching and learning for their class group. You will learn from shadowing how to support children and young people with autism whom may have additional needs, and you will also learn about our school vision and ethos, and our BAGS framework.
This brilliant opportunity will give graduates a wealth of ground breaking evidence-based knowledge and training, both theory and practical. We are a unique school that is experiencing a period of growth, and so we are looking to share our knowledge and outstanding practices with graduates who are looking to develop a career within special educational needs.
We will appoint those who have successfully completed the training programme for a full-time, permanent role as a Learning Mentor with a start date of September 2022. If you are interested in returning as a full time employee you will receive a £500 summer retainer fee, and upon starting with us in September your pay scale will match the salary of the Learning Mentor role.
Abbey School creates a positive working environment, and to work for a school that is so new, innovative, and pupil centred, is very rewarding.
The three week training programme will commence on Monday 4th July and end on Friday 22nd July 2022. You will be paid for attending.
