Vijay is a Marketing student from Aston University. He secured a Marketing and Communications placement at Agilent Technologies, through Bright Network. 
First, please tell us a bit about yourself.
“I’ve always had a passion for marketing and began selling sweets in school in Year 7 to my peers.
This motivated me to manage social media platforms for businesses, which led me to applying to study a marketing degree.”
What motivated you to apply for the role?
“I’ve always loved marketing and wanted to gain more corporate experience related to it and believed that this role is the perfect way to do so.”
What was the application journey like?
“The application process for this role was very straightforward and smooth.
My overall application journey was hard at first, as I struggled in interviews, but I improved my technique over time, by practicing mock interviews with friends and family.”

What are you most proud of about your journey?
“I’m most proud of how I improved my interview technique. I previously struggled to speak in a professional manner towards the beginning of my journey, but I’m now much more confident in my speaking ability.”
What have you learnt from going through the process?
“During the process I learnt how to write a cover letter very effectively and I was surprised at how essential a good cover letter is for landing interviews.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“I recommend that people put at least an hour or two into writing a dedicated cover letter for each application and doing mock interviews with friends and family.”
Tell us about the future. What’s next?
“I’d like to develop my expertise in all areas of marketing through this placement year and hopefully get a full-time job at Agilent, after I prove myself and graduate from my degree.”
