We caught up with Bright Network member Victoria after she secured an exciting graduate role with Teach First. Here's some of Victoria's insight for other members hoping to do the same.
I first saw Teach First on the Bright Network website, where I was able to learn a brief overview of the company and what they do. From there I was able to go on to do my own research.
I have always wanted to be a teacher and after reading up on them, Teach First seemed to be the best route for me to achieve this. It especially resonated with me because it focuses on teaching those from lower income families like myself - thereby enabling me to give back, hopefully helping kids that are very much like me.
I think the toughest part of the application was also my favourite part: the interview day. This is because although it was intensive, I was able to meet other people going through the same thing as me. It also inspired me to do the best I could and made me want the position even more.
I don’t think there was anything surprising about the process. Teach First were great in telling us their expectations and this allowed us the opportunity to prepare accordingly. They were clear in their vision so we were able to tailor our answers to be in line with this. All of this made for a very straightforward interview process.
My advice to other members would be to do your research. No one wants to be caught unaware so it is definitely key to be as prepared as possible. In addition, it is important to make sure it looks like you want to be there. If you are enthusiastic and keen to learn then you are far more likely to stand out in the interviewer’s mind.
