Vanessa is a Drama and English graduate from the University of Birmingham. She secured a graduate role as a Team Assistant at Spark Foundry (part of the Publicis Groupe) in London, through Bright Network. 
First, we’d love for you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
"I'm someone who learnt through my past employments throughout uni that I love being busy and so going into the events industry was something that made a lot of sense for me."
What motivated you to apply for your role?
"When I read the position description I realised it was similar to a role I had done before. This gave me more confidence in applying.
I researched Spark Foundry and the Publicis Groupe and I found that my personal values strongly aligned with theirs, so I knew I had to apply."
What was your application journey like?
"I carefully went through the job description and noted where I could bring in my strengths, weaknesses and experience in cover letters and conversations.
I found that being confident in who I was helped me be more relaxed when it came to the interviews. I also prepared by doing strong research into the company I was applying to, which meant I went into the interview with meaningful questions about my personal development and the company."
What have you learned from going through the process?
"I've learnt not to read too much into things. Just because you don't get an email immediately doesn't mean they don't want you. It's important to keep a positive mindset."
What are you most proud of about your journey?
"The biggest challenge is the relentlessness of job applications. When you're applying to jobs, you end up building a huge bank of tailored CV's and cover letters and when you're not necessarily getting responses from companies (or you're getting rejections) it's really hard to be resilient and keep going.
But I'm so glad I did because I now have a job that I know I'm going to love!"
Tell us about the future. What's next?
"I'm excited to get started in a fast paced role within a prestigious company. I feel like I'm ready to build a strong foundation which will introduce me to the industry."
