Graduate insight into securing an internship with Deloitte

Created on 5 Mar 2018

Louise has done brilliantly to secure a summer internship at Deloitte. Read below to find out what she has to say about the application process.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

As an Accounting and Finance student, I was looking at the Big 4 for my internship, however Deloitte always stood out as a vibrant, current and ever-advancing company that I was keen to get involved with. I chose Tax as it's a sector of Accounting which is always relevant, especially given the economic climate currently!

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

The toughest part was the sheer length of the process. I first submitted an application in October, yet only secured the internship in March. There are so many components to look at so giving your best with all your assignments and uni work going on was difficult.

My favourite part was the group case study. I never thought I would enjoy it, but I genuinely had fun and it was a great insight into life at Deloitte!

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

I was surprised by the level of detail required for an internship as most people think it's a lot easier than a job application.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

1. Take time to find the right internship.

2. Make use of resources around you.

3. Network with people to find out what is out there.

Do you have a lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

A walk in the fresh air before I go into the interview.
