We caught up with Sonali after she secured an exciting graduate role with Deloitte. She told us a bit about her experience to help other members hoping to do the same.
Why did you choose this firm and this role?
I had an interest in HR but also wanted experience working in a Big 4 firm. I heard about the human capital consulting analyst role through a Bright Network email and read the description. I was happy with the role and felt it was something I'd be interested in - particularly Deloitte's research into the changing work habits of milennials.
What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?
The toughest part of the application was the psychometric test game, which I thought would be the end of my candidacy. Apart from initial nerves, my favourite part was going into the Deloitte office for my assessment centre and partner interview. This is because I got to meet other applicants and I got to know the people who worked there, giving me real insight into the working environment.
Were you surprised by anything in the process?
I was pleasantly surprised by the extent to which Deloitte kept me informed throughout the process. I was also assigned a specific HR contact which made the process feel more human and made me feel more welcome in the firm. I had also read so extensively about my service line that I happened to know something about a past Deloitte project in Belgium that the partner didn't know!

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?
The night before both of my interviews, I spoke to my housemate and she would give me a pep talk and some words of encouragement. I remembered what she said during my interviews and it made me feel confident, so I owe a part of my success to her. I also called my parents up the night before and texted them once I reached the office. Support from those around you can make all the difference.
