We recently caught up with Samuel about securing a Land Graduate role with Persimmon Homes, the most exciting task so far and what was attractive about Persimmon Homes.
What attracted you to the role at Persimmon Homes and to working for them?
I wanted to work for an industry leader! Persimmon Homes stand out in the house building industry, and I identified them as being able to give me the best training possible with the widest exposure to all aspects of the business. There are a lot of issues within the industry and to be at the forefront of that change is something I wanted to be a part of.
How did Bright Network help you secure this role?
Bright Network were excellent in their help! They made the process easy and transparent. They often gave little snippets of advice that were much needed in securing the role. Bright Network also provided detailed feedback at each stage of the assessment which I found hadn’t happened with other graduate roles I had applied for.
What is the culture like at Persimmon Homes?
Even though the company is very big, due to the structure of Persimmon, you don’t get that feeling at all. People from all levels are interested to hear your ideas and questions. Not once since I started have I felt like a small cog in a big machine as you can do in larger companies. Senior members of staff often take time to help you and give 1-2-1 advice.
How did you show a passion for the firm?
By doing my research, I knew the values of the firm. I could then make this relatable to my personal experiences and values showing a passion for the firm. I was lucky that my values aligned with the firm’s and therefore talked on this topic for a long period of time during the interview.
What would be your top tip for Bright Network members to follow in your footsteps?
I would say my top tip is to listen to what the interviewers are saying and respect them. In my interview, the interviewer talked about his career, and I would jump in every now and again and ask a question. This shows you are switched on and paying attention!
What has been the most exciting task you've worked on in your first few months in your role?
For me, the most exciting task has been working on a land purchase bid. There was a lot of work put into this and the excitement in the office around whether it would be accepted was second to none
