A massive well done to Pearl, who whilst studying Geography at Durham, has landed a summer internship at Deloitte. Read below to find out what she had to say about the application process.
Why did you choose this firm and this role?
Through researching roles in professional services I discovered Deloitte is a people focused firm and by that I mean that it actively invests in its employees, encouraging their development through training and therefore enabling someone ambitious, like myself, plentiful opportunities to progress in their career.
Similarly Deloitte has schemes like agile working and the 'Time Out' programme which looking forward are further suggestions that Deloitte is a great place to work. I was attracted to the role of audit as it is one of the best roles for seeing how a business actually works and therefore, although my intention is to remain in audit, this provides the foundations for a career in business. In addition, a career in audit is considered to be dynamic as there are lots of different channels money can go through but also there is a huge variety of firms you can work with.
What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?
The toughest part was probably preparing for the interview as it felt like there was an endless amount of research I should do prior to the interview so, combined with the trepidation, this was the hardest part. My favourite part was, surprisingly, the actual interview as the person who interviewed me was so lovely and put me at ease throughout. Also all the research proved to be abundantly useful.
Were you surprised by anything in the process?
I was surprised by the level of detailed feedback I received following my tests, had I not progressed beyond this point I would have not found the tests a waste of time as the feedback clearly illustrated my weaknesses, and therefore areas I could work on for future applications.
