We recently caught up with Matthew about how he secured a Business Graduate role with PwC, tough interview questions and his top tips for Bright Network members looking to follow in his footsteps.
What stood out to you about PwC?
It was the overall size of the company. Naturally, being one of the Big Four meant it was really exciting to be a part of such a big family. I’ve spoken to lots of people through LinkedIn throughout the recruitment process and everyone was really friendly. I chose PwC partly because of my interests and the culture of the firm.
There are loads of opportunities in PwC. They have extracurricular groups within the company, including a coding group which I really want to get involved with. The job itself is rotational so I get to go through a few lines of service and experience lots of things inside the firm. I’m most excited about going into the deals line of service which is corporate finance-based in terms of mergers and acquisitions and due diligence process which is what I’m interested in. Therefore, I naturally showed this in my interviews, and I think they picked up on that.
How did you make your application stand out?
I came from a more unique degree so I could show some of the more unique benefits of my degree, especially focusing on environmental development within companies. Sustainability is such a big thing in the fashion industry, and it really translated well into my applications as PwC have a big focus on sustainability with their clients.
What part of the application process did you find the most challenging?
The plyometric tests. I got quite nervous at the start because I’ve never really done this kind of test before. The practice tests on the Bright Network website helped me definitely and I used the numerical reasoning test and word association test on the Bright Network website.
As I did more of them, I became more confident that by the end I was sat down and ready to go!
What are your top tips for tackling tough interview questions?
Preparation is important. If you can think of any possible question, they could ask you then it’s difficult to get caught out. Think in advance about what makes you unique, especially with the recruiter.
