Mae Mae's insights into securing a Trainee role with Addleshaw Goddard

Created on 21 Jan 2022

We recently caught up with Mae Mae about how they secured a graduate role with Addleshaw Goddard and their top tips for Bright Network members looking to follow in their footsteps.

What stood out to you about the firm you secured your role with?

I was attracted to the strength of Addleshaw Goddard’s Energy practice, notably within Renewables. It’s an area I would like to specialise in, so the firm’s advice on several landmark projects in this area caught my eye. Additionally, I was drawn to how down-to-earth and open the culture is at the firm. It’s a strong indication that my training will be comprised of both a wealth of interesting opportunities and a supportive working environment.

What would be your top tip to members going through the application process?

Giving this piece of advice has probably been done to death, but it’s key to tailor your applications and craft them for each firm. Research what each firm is looking for and think about how your skillset/motivations would make you an asset to the firm you’re applying to.

I would also advise you to open yourself up to as many opportunities as you can while at university, without spreading yourself too thin. This will help you buttress your answers to application and interview questions with interesting and varied examples.

How did Bright Network help you secure this role?

I participated in the Internship Experience in 2020, and I found a useful way to help distinguish what made a lot of city firms different and gain an insight into the day-to-day experiences of a trainee.
