Key insights from a Summer Analyst at Morgan Stanley

Created on 2 Jan 2018

After attending our annual Bright Network Festival, Law student Lucy successfully applied for an Internship at Morgan Stanley.  Read below to find out how she found the whole experience and any advice she has for members looking to follow in her footsteps.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

I chose Morgran Stanley due their outstanding global reputation and opportunities for international development. The people I interacted with throughout the recruitment process were friendly and willing to provide useful practical advice e.g. which sector I should pick. The internship would provide me with technical training.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

The toughest part for me was the case study as it was quite technical in some areas and this was challenging for me as a non-finance student. However my favourite was definitely the interview process, getting to know other candidates and people within the firm.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

How accommodating and responsive the firm was, as I had to fly in for the interview.

What three tips would you give to your fellow Bright Network members?

1. Prepare technicals thoroughly.

2. Read the Financial Times.

3. Know why the firm is unique from other bulge brackets.

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

I like to curl my hair a get a starbucks before the interview.
