Jared is a Computer Science graduate from Nottingham Trent. He secured a Technology Graduate role at CMC Markets in London through Bright Network.
First, we’d love for you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
“I've always been a curious child, which is the main reason why I wanted to work in the technology sector from a young age. I went to university because I believed it would be the best option to kickstart my career.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“The role looked very interesting and was rotational, which was attractive to me, as I don't know exactly what I want to do within the tech industry just yet.”
What was your application journey like?
“It was difficult – in my experience, the video interviews are the most challenging stages during application processes.
I prepared by firstly looking at my own values and what I wanted from a firm. I then applied to many roles, I thought I’d like. One of the main things I struggled with was the lack of feedback I received in my applications, but I remained resilient in my search.”
How did Bright Network help you secure your role?
“I found the role on Bright Network and also referred to my experience doing Internship Experience UK during my interview.”
What are you most proud of about your application journey?
“I experienced a lot of rejection so I’m proud of my resilience during that time.”
What have you learned from going through the process?
“I learned that soft skills are just as important as technical ones. I also learned that applications processes are much longer than expected, with some companies not replying for months.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“Practice, practice, practice! Whether that’s for interviews, psychometrics tests or group assessment centres.
My other piece of advice would be to make sure that you have extracurricular things on you CV to help you stand out.”
