We recently got the chance to speak with Isobel about how they secured a Graduate Placement with the British Horseracing Authority and their top tips for Bright Network members looking to follow in their footsteps.
What stood out to you about the British Horseracing Authority?
The placement was for eight weeks, and it was really informative. It mixed both theoretical learning and some more practical experiences like going out to meet people within the industry. They really interested me as they are the organising body for the industry, and with that, I was able to work within a lot of different departments, meet racing teams, and it was very varied which was what I really wanted out of the experience.
What would be your top tip to members following in your footsteps?
Have a clear sense of why you want to be a part of the programme. Take some time to outline why you want to do the placement, what interests you, what would you like to gain. As that really shows in your application and helps you stand out to the firm. So I definitely recommend spending that time researching the firm, the placement itself, and the work you’ll be doing to get an idea of why it is what you want.
How did Bright Network help you secure your role?
I actually found the role through Bright Network, and I do not think I would have found the role without it being on the site. I have been around horses my whole life and they’re a real passion and hobby of mine, so when I saw the opportunity I knew I had to go for it.
