Elysia is a Finance student at the University of Nottingham. She secured a Compliance and Financial Crime internship at Barclays through Bright Network.
First, we’d love for you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
“I’ve always been interested in trying to combine my interests in finance and law, so I’ve decided to try and find a sector that allows that.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“I was really motivated by the inclusive and welcoming culture I saw at Barclays, as well as the challenging nature of the work.”
What was the application process like?
“There were online assessments, an interview and an assessment centre. It was nerve wracking but the skills I learnt through Bright Network internship experience really helped me.”
What have you learned from going through the process?
“I learned to not doubt myself as much, because I deserve the opportunities I’ve been given.”
What are you most proud of about your journey?
“I never thought I’d be capable of securing an internship at such a prestigious company and I’m so proud that I managed to achieve that.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“Take advantage of all the opportunities Bright Network offer, especially their Internship Experience, as it helped me develop so much.
I’d also say, to try not to doubt yourself!”
Tell us about the future. What’s next?
“I’m considering either compliance law or forensic accounting going forward. I really want to develop my problem-solving skills and my confidence throughout my career.”
