Christine is a Finance graduate from the University of East Anglia. She secured a graduate role as an Associate at Morgan Stanely through Bright Network.
First, we’d love for you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
“I’ve always been interested in learning more about derivatives products so that was actually what fuelled my interest in pursuing a career in Transaction Reporting.
I was raised by parents who’ve always taken quality education very seriously, so going to university was a no-brainer. I studied law in my undergraduate and then decided to pivot more towards finance afterwards.”
What was the application process like?
“It was pretty straightforward. I had three interviews in total, with the second stage being the most technical. What I appreciated is that they weren’t trying to catch me out at any stage.”
“I spoke to the employers to get an insight into what the expectations may be and to get a feel for what it’d be like to work at Morgan Stanley. These conversations helped shape my interviews because I was able to speak on some of the firms' cultures that aligned with my professional goals and preferences.”
How did Bright Network help you secure your role?
“The interview preparation publications on Bright Network were so helpful to me in my interview journey.”
What are you most proud of about your journey?
“I’m most proud of my resilience in the face of countless rejections. I always held out hope that I was going to secure a great role in the end and I’m so glad that it worked out that way.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“Only apply to jobs that you actually want! It can be tricky, particularly as the job market is so fickle and uncertain, but it’s important to apply for roles you find fulfilling.
Additionally, when it gets to the interview stage make sure to convey your passion, not just for the company but for the role itself.
You don’t have to meet all the job requirements, you just have to do your best with the requirements you have and present yourself as willing to learn in the areas you’re lacking.”
Tell us about the future. What’s next?
“I’m still settling into my role and picking up new skills. Hopefully in the next few years I’ll also get promoted into a more senior role.”
