Ben is an Economics graduate from the University of Sheffield. He secured a graduate role as a Data Economist at Ofcom in Manchester, through Bright Network.
First, please tell us a little bit about yourself.
"Despite wanting to be an architect when I was younger, I fell in love with Economics during my A-levels and knew that it was what I wanted to study at university.
Five years and many hurdles later, I'm about to finish my masters in Economics and have secured a role at Ofcom as a Data Economist.
While I never imagined myself working in media and communications, I was drawn in by the interesting high profile projects and the opportunity to apply the skills gained in my degree. So far I've had such an amazing experience at Ofcom, and can't wait to continue my journey."
What motivated you to apply for your role?
"I was really motivated after hearing from fellow alumni and guest speakers about their positive experiences at Ofcom.
I was drawn in by the opportunity to apply my economics background to real world challenges and was really amazed by the clear commitment to learning and development in the graduate scheme."
What was your application journey like?
"Although the idea of an assessment centre initially terrified me, Bright Network really helped ease a lot of my anxiety surrounding the day and I am really grateful for the friendly admin team.
My one piece of advice to prepare for an assessment centre is to not panic if you're unsure about answering a question and do not be afraid to ask your interviewer to repeat the question."
