We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate position in Asset Planning & Network Engineering at Yorkshire Water. The role

The Graduate Programme is a two-year programme offering five structured placements within your business area, with selective placements in other areas, including our core functions, such as Finance, Health & Safety, People, Procurement to provide a holistic and rounded business learning journey.

The variety within the programme will see you working across our business and undertaking activities alongside your colleagues to meet the challenges faced by our industry ranging from how to achieve net zero carbon emissions through to how we plan for drought or flood events. The Asset Planning & Network Engineering covers a number of connected, yet discrete areas, with the opportunity to work across exciting areas, such as promoting capital solutions (mains renewal, Service Reservoir or Water Pumping Station rebuilds), new development assessments (investigate the impact of new developments on the water network), undertake detailed investigations for our water quality regulator, assess the resilience and criticality of our water network assets, identify and lead investigations into asset performance shortfalls or opportunities and provide engineering support and coaching to other colleagues in the team and the wider business.

The operation, management and investment in our assets is a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

The role of a Water Network Asset Management Graduate is a vital one as you will help ensure that water performance commitments and regulatory standards are met. This will ensure that we provide our customers with a wholesome water supply that everyone can enjoy.

Where you’ll fit in

As a Water Network Asset Management Graduate you will:

  • Identify and lead investigations into asset performance shortfalls or opportunities.
  • Identify a notional solution where appropriate.
  • Lead projects through the definition phase, ensuring that potential solutions to asset performance shortfalls are fully investigated, utilising expert and partner resources as required
  • Be able to calculate via the use of manual calculations or hydraulic analytical tools to determine the hydraulic and water quality impact of interventions on customers. The Engineer will produce detailed operational method statements and contingency plans which are verified and agreed with operational teams.
  • Investigate new supply, mains requisitions, self-lay and NAV applications to determine their impact on network performance measures. Design and promote solutions to ensure serviceability performance is maintained.
  • provide a holistic view of future demand growth within relevant areas and will highlight and propose engineering options through the Asset Management department to secure CAPEX funding for appropriate mains reinforcement schemes.
  • Undertake detailed investigation and reports for Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) reportable incidents, Water Quality Contact performance; DWI Drinking Water Safety Plans development and undertake water quality investigations following performance issues.
  • Provide engineering support and coaching to other colleagues in the team and the wider business.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2:1 Bachelors degree in an Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (maximum 6 points)
  • Enthusiasm and a drive to succeed
